HEWITSON AND STEVENS TRUMP MORRIS' HEROICSEngland Over 40s Cricket have beaten Wales Over 40s Cricket by 92 runs in the first Over-40s International for both countries. A debut century to Sion Morris wasn't enough to bring the men in red close to England's imposing total, which included 96 to Chris Hewitson and a scintillating 72 from 48 balls from Darren Stevens. Batting first, England started steadily, cruising to 52/0 after 10 overs. Wales dismissed both openers within 10 runs of each other and the hosts were 84/2, but then Hewitson and Stevens joined forces and added 132.At the half-way stage, England were a modest 107/2, but they proceeded to smash 186 from the last 23 overs. Hewitson stroked 96 from 82 balls and Stevens - the 2021 Wisden Cricketer of the Year - showed his class hitting 72 from just 48 balls.England finished on 293/4 from their 45 overs.Wales made an excellent start and were in a similar position to England after 23 overs, reaching 103/0 as Sion Morris and Michael Martin set a great platform. However, they were unable to power through the second half of the innings as England had done, and the chase stuttered once Martin was dismissed (for 45). Morris batted almost right through the innings for a defiant 118 - the first century in Over-40s internationals - but Wales ended 93 runs short. It was a magnificent occasion and a wonderful start to over-40s cricket in the Northern Hemisphere.Scorecard: t.co/dsUkgVyv9N ...
