IMC is proud to announce that the 2024 Over-60s Player of the Year is Tony Panecasio from Australia.Panecasio had an outstanding debut year, taking 28 wickets with his left-arm spin across just 8 matches at a scarcely believable average of 9.50.He made his O60I debut in the IMC Over-60s World Cup against Wales, taking 3/13 from 7.1 overs, and followed that up with 3/18 against Sri Lanka. He took 2/34 against India, and then an astonishing 6/13 off 9 overs against New Zealand - the best ever figures by any bowler in O60Is and the second-best in any masters age group. In the World Cup Final, Panecasio was again irresistible, taking 4/32 against the strong English batting lineup and winning the Man of the Match award.Unsurprisingly, he ended up as the leading wicket-taker at the World Cup, with 18 wickets at just 6.11.Proving this was no fluke, he continued to be effective on the less spin-friendly wickets of Australia against the touring English in November and December. He took 10 wickets for 156 runs across the 5-match series, including 3-fers in the last two games.Overall, it was an incredible debut year for Panecasio and he is a well-deserved recipient of this award. ... Pakistan have defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to win the IMC Over-50s World Cup.The match was of an extremely high standard, as one would expect, at the P Sara Test ground in Colombo. Sri Lanka won the toss and batted, and Saman Jayantha - the tournament's leading run-scorer - blazed away, hitting 71 from 59 balls. The Pakistan bowlers chipped away, however, and at 133/5 Sri Lanka were starting to lose their momentum. Captain Shane Fernando (45) and Suwanji Madanayake (33) helped the hosts up to what looked like a par score of 233/7. The old campaigner Mohammed Jaffar took 3/34.Pakistan started badly and were quickly 14/2 after this incredible catch by Upul Chandana ( youtube.com/clip/UgkxePyt2affzghjtQE12KO3NEQhtczgJvky?si=PkEkSS_GlzaD_tz- ). However, Asif Hamayun then played beautifully, attacking the Sri Lankan bowlers with some graceful shots down the ground. He and Mohamed Shahid (38) got Pakistan back on track, before Sheikh Iqbal (53 not out) and Mohammed Hafeez (28 not out) took Pakistan home in the last over.Scorecard: cricheroes.com/scorecard/15450174/imc-over-50s-world-cup-2025-/sri-lanka-(over-50)-vs-pakistan-(o...Congratulations to Pakistan and also to Sena Seneviratne and his organising committee for putting on a wonderful tournament. At the Tournament Dinner, the following awards were handed out:Top run-scorer: Saman Jayantha (Sri Lanka), 360 runs at 51.43Top wicket-taker: Ali Bukhari (Wales), 21 wickets at 13.62Best all-rounder: Ali Bukhari (Wales): 21 wickets at 13.62 and 278 runs at 39.71The following Team of the Tournament was announced:1.
